Nemato Change a Life

Nonprofit Organisation 075-396-NPO

Public Benefit Organisation 930033563 (Section 18A)

Board of Governors

Decisions in Nemato Change a Life are made by the gold members: the beneficiaries with the highest commitment to our empowerment programme (for youth, by youth). Our Board of Governors forms a safety net that can only act to overrule decisions made by the gold members that go against the aims of our organisation. The Board has four members: two of our most senior beneficiaries and two people from outside with a strong passion for and understanding of our organisation.

Athenkosi Hlekani athenkosihlekani@yahoo.com
Board Member Athenkosi Hlekani Athi has been a member right from the start of our rowing club at the end of 2005. At the young age of 16 he did the acceptance speech when we won the Jack Cheetham Award, what earned him the words "young man, you have a great future ahead of you" from the CEO of Murray & Roberts. He was scouted as rower by the University of Johannesburg and became the first black captain of UJ rowing club. As only South African he was selected to participate in a United Nations Youth Leadership Camp in Qatar. Athenkosi Hlekani was the first member of Nemato Change a Life to graduate with a degree in Business Science and is now employed as a teacher and rowing head coach at Jeppe Boys High School in Johannesburg as he completes a post-graduate course in education.
Brett Malila bmalila@hotmail.com
Board Member Brett Malila

Brett Malila has been involved with Nemato Change a Life from 2012. His involvement started when he was the Manager at the President’s Award for Youth Empowerment in Grahamstown and worked very closely with several of our young people to encourage them to make positive choices and achieve their Gold Award’s. He has also been involved in Nemato’s strategic planning sessions, which he voluntarily facilitated for us. Brett is on the Board of three local NGO’s all dealing with issues of poverty and Youth Empowerment. He has changed many lives in a wide range of different projects and organisations.

“I am by nature not one to look for accolades or recognition, and have always valued my worth by the number of people I have been able to assist or put on an improved life journey.”
Lesley Lambert lesley@wisenet.co.za
Board Member Lesley Lambert

Lesley Lambert is a communications and corporate social investment specialist. She has worked as a financial journalist for Business Day, a media advisor in the South African Ministry of Finance for Finance Ministers Derek Keys and Chris Liebenberg, and a communications executive for Billiton and Murray & Roberts. In 2003, Lesley established a financial communications consulting business which offers services to the corporate sector in communications strategy development, writing, editing and management or promotion of corporate events and corporate social investment programmes.

Lesley has known the Nemato project since its earliest days in 2006 when it won the Jack Cheetham Memorial Award for sports development, and has assisted in securing corporate funding for Nemato Change a Life. Having watched the project develop over a decade and marveled at the depth of its impact on young people in an area of great need, Lesley had no hesitation in agreeing to be a board member of Nemato Change a Life.
