NEMATO CHANGE A LIFE

year by year 2024

coding

In our Sunday maths classes, we do coding. Level One is 'Tanks' coding, using cardboard tokens and a phone app. It's a great way to start, and even small children can do it! Level Two is 'kTurtle' on our computers. It's an easy programming language that can draw beautiful shapes and teach all the basics of coding, including variables and loops. Level Three is Google Sheets and Apps Script, the system we use for our members admin.

retreats

Retreats remain a key element of our programme. This year, we held retreats during the holidays in January, July, and October. They took place under the inspirational leadership of Bunie and Maphori.

internet upgrade (August)

Thanks to a grant from Telkom, we were able to upgrade our internet. It now has enough speed to run smoothly, even when our office is busy with many internet users.

driver's licence (7 August)

With the help of Nemato Change a Life, Siyanda passed his driver's test. He likes cars and was very excited when Hilton Musk visited Port Alfred and gave him a chance to experience the Tesla Model X.

Youth Day (16 June)

On Youth Day 2006 we were officially opened by Minister Stofile, so 16 June is our birthday. This year we celebrated Youth Day at the beach with a braai and a treasure hunt.

painting (May)

Malibongwe took the initiative to brighten up our office with fresh paint.

up-scaling fish farm

To give more space to our fish we scaled up our fish farm. The fish moved from the round black tank to the green tank. The black tanks form the filtering system. The project was carried out by Jester.

Sunshine Carnival (13 April)

Reward for high commitment to our programme: our Gold members visited the Sunshine Carnival in Port Alfred.

SABC filming (31 January)

SABC came to Nemato Change a Life to film about changing lives.

Telkom grant

Telkom offered us an IT grant for a second year. We used it to upgrade our computers and to train Sipiwo in all aspects of running our office. We also built new tables to get more space for the computers.
